Going the Distance

European Association of Distance Teaching Universities - The European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) is the representative organisation of both the European open and distance learning universities and of the national consortia of higher education institutions active in the field of distance education and e-learning. Therefore it is the main voice of the community for open and distance higher education and e-learning in Europe.

Hyperfocal distance - Hyperfocal distance is a distance used in optics, especially photography. It is the distance at which to focus a lens to make everything from half the hyperfocal distance to infinity acceptably sharp, that is, within the depth of field.

Skip distance - A skip distance is the distance a radio wave travels, usually including a hop in the ionosphere. A skip distance is a distance on the earth's surface between the two points where radio waves from a transmitter, refracted downwards by different layers of the ionosphere, fall.

Comoving distance - The comoving distance or conformal distance of two objects in the universe is the distance divided by a time-varying scale factor representing the expansion of the universe. As a result the comoving distances on average are not increasing with time.
